The excitement around the Totally Wicked Stadium reached an all-time high for the highly anticipated Good Friday clash between St.Helens R.F.C. and Wigan Warriors, with 18,000 tickets selling out over five weeks in advance. The annual bank holiday clash between the two sides is often judged more than just a rugby match, it’s a significant major event in many calendars.
For the first time ever, the club organised an official welcome for their players outside of the stadium. Saints supporters were encouraged to arrive early with the club providing special effects such as lights, flame sprinklers, and music to add to the gameday experience for both spectators and players. There was also an ice cream park up outside the ground from local TikTok star – JJ’s Ices who proved to be an extremely popular figure, serving delicious treats and filming content for his digital audience of millions.
Local live acts like Jack Bennett’s Music, DJ Eric McKenna, DJ Earl Raff set the stage for an electrifying atmosphere and a hub of entertainment just before the match kicked off, setting the tone for what was guaranteed to be a brutal 80 minutes of Rugby League. The thrill escalated to new heights as the Royal Marines abseiled from the stadium roof, adding a touch of adrenaline as the teams entered the field.
Performances from both sides did not disappoint, with Saints clinching the victory in the last 10 minutes thanks to a piece of exceptional skill from star winger Tommy Makinson completing a perfect day for our venue and town.
